Michael’s life journey, both personally and professionally, has never been a linear one; rather, it’s one that has wound in many directions in order to accommodate multiple moves, career paths, and the pursuit of various dreams and projects. Ultimately, this path brought him to where he is today—a valued bankruptcy and family law attorney for Pacific Cascade.
Michael was born and raised in Salt Lake City, and attended twelve different schools before the end of his elementary years. His senior year of high school saw him stepping into the roles of assistant head cheerleader, debate team captain, drama club president, choir vice president, and General Sterling Scholar. According to Michael, if he could repeat one year of his life, that year would be a strong contender.
After a year of college at the University of Utah, Michael served a 2-year full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Southwest England and Wales. He attended Weber State University on a presidential honors scholarship where he studied musical theater, before switching to math and physics for the last quarter before graduation. Michael never went on to physically attend his college graduation; he skipped the event to attend his own wedding with his now-wife, who he shares four wonderful children with.
Out of the gates of University, Michael joined PacifiCorp as an economic analyst, a role he stayed in for several years. Noticing that many of the company executives had law degrees, and seeing the opportunity benefits, he decided he would do the same, which prompted him to pursue his J.D. from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College. After many years of working as an attorney for PacifiCorp, and eventually running his own solo bankruptcy and family law firm (while also owning a restaurant!), Michael made the decision to join the Pacific Cascade Bankruptcy branch, so that he can continue focusing on helping his bankruptcy and family law clients start fresh and turn a new leaf in life. Michael brings years of experience in family law cases to each client he helps at our firm.
Michael is multi-faceted when it comes to his interests and passions outside of his career. He appreciates a wide range of creative outlets, whether it be theater performance, playing piano, cooking, or watching anything Disney with his family. His greatest joys in life are derived from spending time in with his children. When asked about his perfect day, he paints the detailed picture of a day with just enough promise of rain in Anaheim that the locals all decide to stay home, giving him and his family the whole day at Disneyland to themselves. As for quotes that resonate with Michael, Henry B. Eyring comes to mind, who once said “Most people carrying heavy loads begin to doubt themselves and their own worth. We lighten their loads as we are patient with their weaknesses and celebrate whatever goodness we can see in them. The Lord does that.”
